What will you study?

The aims of the GCE in Chemistry are to enable students to: Develop interest in, and enthusiasm, for Chemistry, including developing an interest in further study and careers in chemistry. 

AS : Students study Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry (Note AS grades do not count towards your final A Level grades

A2: Relevant Physical chemistry topics , inorganic chemistry, and Relevant practical skills


 Paper 1

 What is assessed:

• Relevant Physical chemistry topics (atomic structure, amount of substance, bonding, energetics, chemical equilibria, Le          Chateliers, principle and Kc , oxidisation, reduction and redox equations )

• Inorganic chemistry (periodicity, group2, the alkaline earth metals)

• Relevant practical skills

 How it is assessed:

• written exam: 1 hour 30 minutes

• 80 marks

• 50% of the AS

 Paper 2

 What is assessed:

• Relevant Physical chemistry topics (amount of substance, bonding, energetics, chemical equilibria, Le Chateliers, principle and Kc )

• Organic chemistry (Introduction to organic chemistry, alkanes, halogenalkanes, alkene, alcohols, organic analysis)

• Relevant practical skills

 How it is assessed:

• Written exam: 1 hour 30 minutes

 • 80 marks

• 50% of the AS

 A Level (Year 2)

What is assessed

Paper 1

· Relevant Physical chemistry topics , inorganic chemistry, and Relevant practical skills

How is it assessed

· Written exam: 2 hours

· Questions 105 marks of short and long answer questions

·  35% of A-level

 A Level (Year 2)
